These paintings were produced in the open, in front of the subject, some in a few minutes and some in several hours but rarely more than a days work. Occasionally some extra work is done back at the studio but generally they are left in their 'raw' state (oil sketches) Although painting outside presents many challenges and numerous practical difficulties it is a very absorbing activity.

I am happy to take commissions for portrait drawings. My preference is to work from life , wherever practical. A 1 or 2 hour sitting initially. I also take photographs to help with completion if more sittings are not possible. I can, however, work directly from photographs. Semi Finalist - Landscape Artist of the Year 2016

This year (2016) I have been involved in Sky Landscape Artist of the Year. I gather there were a considerable number of entry submissions and I was very pleased to be selected to take part . My heat was the first of 6 and I gather it will be broadcast on Sky Arts on the 11th October 2016.
